Root and Branch Review of an In-House HR Function

While most of our clients do not have an in-house HR department, we also undertake project work for larger organisations whose HR teams need extra support. A regional branch of a national charity asked us to help them improve the way they delivered HR within the organisation.

We began with a discovery phase, speaking to groups of managers and staff about what was working and what fell short. Key findings included a lack of clarity around processes, little training for managers and inconsistent use of the HR system. We carried out a full review of HR documentation, processes and procedures, introduced BreatheHR software, updated job descriptions and redesigned recruitment and induction procedures. A member of our team acted as interim HR manager on site, coaching the HR team and training managers in people management skills, before assisting with the recruitment of an Operations Director and a part-time HR manager.

The entire project was completed within the structured four-month programme agreed at the outset, and we continue to support the charity as and when required.
